Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'T' introduce the tale of how King Arthur gathers a host to travel to Rome to battle the emperor. In his absence he leaves his nephew Mordred in charge. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'K' introduce the tale of the Spanish giant. Line 24 ' a ' scored out by scribe. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

Gascoigne and Almaigne. fflaundres and Peihto. and of Boloigne hadde .xxiiij. m(l). Geryn. of Chartres. had. x.m(l) Hoel of Britaigne.xj.m(l). and him self of his owene land. xij(ml). and of Arblasters and of Archers and oþ(er)e folc in foote þat no man couþ(e) hem noumbr(e). and whanne all weren al redy for to wende: king Arthur his lande and Gun- nore his wif toke to kepe to on of his . Neueus þat was a wys knyght and hardy þa(t) me callede Mordred. but he was nouȝt al trewe as ȝe shulle here aft(er)ward. king Ar- thur toke al his reaume to þis Mordred. sauf onliche þe croune// And aft(er) þat king Arthur nome his host and wente to South(au)mpton þere þat þe shipes were brought and þe folc assemblede and þey deden ham to þe see and hadden good wynde & weder at wille and as sone as þey myghte þey arryuede at Barflete and as sone as they might þey wenten out of hire shippes and spradden al þe cuntr(e) How king Arthur faught with a geaunt in Spaigne þat me callede Denabȝ þat quelde Eleyne þat was king Hoeles cosyn of litel Britaigne.
