Description: 
Middlesex. Monochrome with ornate border, the map is very rich in detail including cities, place names, rivers and mountains. Castles, mountains and significant buildings are illustrated by drawings. Centre top is an ornate compass rose overlaid with a scale bar. Inset top left is a map of Westminster and beneath this in a book-shaped cartouche is given the history of the churches of St Peter and St Paul. Beneath this is a large sketch of St Peters. Inset top right is a map of London and beneath this in a book-shaped cartouche is an apology for the lack of space or scale in which to represent the city. Beneath this is a large sketch of the church of St Pauls. The inscription: 'Described by John Norton. Augmented by J Speed. Sold by Henry Overton at the White Horse without Newgate London'.
