Description:
Middlesex and Hertfordshire. This map illustrates part of 'Poly-Olbion', a topographical poem written by Michael Drayton (1563-1631) which contained songs praising the beauty of England and Wales. This is one of several 'allegorical' maps created to accompany these poems. The 'allegorical' maps represented rivers with nymphs; hills with shepherds; forests with huntresses and cities with crowned female figures.
