Description:
|
Autograph letter to Isidore Justin Séverin Taylor known as Baron Taylor enclosing a letter (not included) to the committee (presumably of the Comédie Française), which Hugo asks him to pass on with 'his' recommendation.
Taylor was a French Romantic writer and playwright of British descent. He is mostly remembered for the Voyages pittoresques et romantiques dans l'ancienne France (1820-78), written with Charles Nodier and others, giving a comprehensive description of historical monuments throughout the French provinces. He also directed the Théâtre-Français in 1825-30 and 1831-8, and was appointed Senator by Napoleon III in 1869.
Bought from Kyrle Fletcher on 12 April 1964 for £5.5s.
