Autograph letter to Proth expressing approval and admiration of Proth's book, Le mouvement à propos des Misérables, which he has received in proof from Paul Meurice. He extends a cordial invitation to Proth to visit him in Guernsey and replies succinctly to Proth's criticism of his admiration for Napoleon I and of his religious ideas. Written at Cologne. Bought from Charavay on 10 June 1964 for 320 francs. Proth was a French writer and journalist, friend of Hugo and George Sand.
