Description:
|
Autograph letter to Bligh (S.) commenting on verses signed S.B. received from him, and saying that Bligh has misunderstood the death of Gilliatt and Hugo's religion.
Another hand translated the letter directly between the lines; apparently, Hugo had deliberately let a wide line spacing in this purpose.
Written at Hauteville House, Guernsey.
There is also an envelope, in another hand, inscribed "Mr Victor Hugo's letter/S. Bligh Esqre/South Villa/with Mr Holt's compliments".
Bought from Maggs Brother's Ltd. on 21 January 1966 for £4.4s.
S. Bligh is unidentified.
