Description:

Front cover of the exhibition programme for the Gold! Klondike!! Exhibition of .. Working Gold Mine at Lewis's. The exhibit was a model of the Saratoga Gold Mine, Gilpin County, Colorado, invented and patented by William Keast, who worked at the mine for six and a half years. It was exhibited at the World's Fair, Chicago, 1893, and at the Mid-Winter Fair, San Francisco, 1894. Keast then brought the model to Europe where it was exhibited at the Royal Aquarium in London, the Cardiff Exhibition, and at Glasgow. It was shown in the subterranean mining exhibition in the Trocadero Palace at the Paris Exposition of 1900; see NAMHO (National Association of Mining History Associations) newsletter June 2010 and March 2011. No date given. Date of exhibition presumed to be between 1894 when the model was brought to Great Britain, and 1900 when it moved to Paris.
