Description:
This edition of the Apocrypha was published by Cadell and Davies as a continuation of the Macklin Bible (Spencer 11819 Volumes 1-7). The full-page plates and headpiece and tailpiece vignettes were published by Cadell & Davies, and the text was printed for Cadell & Davies by Thomas Bensley. The Apocrypha includes 6 full-page plates designed by Philip James de Loutherbourg, and engraved by various engravers, published between 01 July 1815 and 20 February 1816; and 28 headpiece (14) and tailpiece (8) vignettes, most of which were designed by Philippe-Jacques de Loutherbourg and engraved by John Landseer. The vignettes were published between 04 May 1815 and 03 September 1816. Two vignettes bear earlier dates in addition to the dates in 1815-1816 as follows: the headpiece to 2 Esdras has the publication line "Crouch end 1812. Published 3 July 1815, by Mess Cadell & Davies"; the headpiece to the Wisdom of Solomon has the publication line "J Landseer fecit, engraver to the King & FSA June 1813. Published 7 Sep 1815 by T Cadell & W Davies London".
