Description:
Spratt's second, improved edition of 'Obstetric tables' - Part II. This fascinating nineteenth century obstetric atlas is spectacular in that some of the illustrations incorporate lift up sections or ‘flaps’, or what we now know as ‘pop-up books’. Designed as a teaching aid for medical students, it shows the changes the female body goes through during pregnancy and the embryo's development. Includes thirty nine hand coloured lithograph plates, with overlays, irregularly paginated. Some of the plates have movable flaps to show various parts of the anatomy: VII. Procidentia uteri, enlarged ovary, face presentations, &c., with four flaps; VIII. On the application of the forceps in the most natural position of the foetal head, with three flaps; IX. On the application of the forceps in the second, third, and fourth positions of the foetal head, with four flaps; X. Preternatural presentation of the foetus, with 5 flaps; XI. Contents of the gravid uterus, membranes, twin conception, &c., with four flaps; XII. Blood vessels of the impregnated uterus; V.B. Placenta presentations, &c. &c., with four flaps; VI.B. On turning, with three flaps; VII.B. On craniotomy, with three flaps. An extensive list of subscribers to the volumes is also included.
