The Illustrated London News, July 11, 1857, Volume 31, number 868. Funded by Herbert Ingram (1811-1860), began weekly publication in 1842 as a primarily conservative leaning paper and was the world’s first illustrated newspaper. Contains a report (supplement page 42) and many illustrations of the state visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to the Manchester Exhibition of Art Treasures in 1857: front page illustration of the triumphal arch at Old Trafford; four full-page illustrations: The royal procession passing the infirmary (page 32); The royal visitors in the nave of the Art-Treasures Exhibition building (page 33); The Queen's reception room (page 36); Presentation of the corporation address (page 44); two half-page illustrations: Triumphal arch at Stretford Road, and at Albert-Bridge, Manchester (page 45).
