The text has been copied from 'The Art of Painting' by Roger de Piles; pp. 266-268. On the right hand side is an engraved portrait of Hans Holbein. Facing right. Holbein is depicted with a paint brush in his hand; a palette can be seen hanging up in the background to the left of his head. In the background is a street scene with two figures; one representing Death and the other a nun. Composite image.
