Double page opening. On the left hand side is a page of handwritten text providing a brief biography of Albrecht Dürer. The text has been copied from 'The Art of Painting' by Roger de Piles; pp. 250-253. On the right hand side is an engraving by Lucas Kilian after Johann Rottenhammer's copy of Durer's Feast of the Rose Garlands painting of 1506. Dürer is depicted wearing a coat with a fur trim. A stone slab with the the letters 'C.S.C. M/ PRIVIL.' is seen in front of Dürer. Composite image.
