Small slivers of wood tied together with wire. Attached is a handwritten label stating Splinters from The Princess Alice sunk in the Thames from a collision. [Initials illegible]. On 3rd of September 1878, SS Princess Alice, formerly PS Bute, was sunk in a collision on the River Thames with the collier Bywell Castle off Tripcok Point. Over 650 lives were lost.
