Photograph of a scene in Guangzhou, showing a river packed with boats, including a dragon boat. In the background, on the opposite shore, can be seen a large church. Parker's note on reverse: 10A, [] illustrates most vividly several[?] stories[?]'. This photo was reproduced in Parker's book 'John Chinaman', facing p. 98, where it is accompanied by the label, 'Looking Down the Canton River, (Cathedral to left; "flower-boats" and dragon-boat for racing to right.)' The cathedral is the Sacred Heart (Catholic) Cathedral, which was completed in 1888.
