Description:
Sixteenth-century Parisian armorial binding for Henri II and Diane of Poitiers, possibly by Claude de Picques. Greek style. Full goatskin over wooden boards with grooved edges; multiple fillets and tooling to form a border; on the lower board the tooled border is gilt, the cartouche and arms are in blind; both boards show remains of [silver or white?] decoration; both upper and lower boards have four holes which previously held protective pins or bosses; remains of four leather ties at top, bottom and fore-edge of lower board.
