Description:
|
Single line engraving in black ink. Job's comforters have turned on him and he is compositionally separated from them in a vision of utter loneliness by a barrier of outstretched arms and accusing pointed fingers. Yet again he finds solace in faith, reinforced by the vague crucifix shape that stands on his side of the composition. His body is physically strong and the motifs of defiance and endurance are supplemented in the margins by the chained figures that resist a fall from grace as they claw themselves heavenward to the edges of a semi-circular realm of safety.
