Description:
|
Single line engraving in black ink. Job is depicted in the centre of an inhospitable landscape. Like the previous illustration, Job's reclamation of pure faith can be seen to be progressing steadily in the way the druidic monument is softened by the inclusion of a classical arch. However, the comforters now occupy a similar body position to that of Job's wife as she witnessed him being smote by a plague of boils. These three figures and the ever-present wife of Job seem to really epitomise the subject of this scene, for Job's countenance seems more measured and stoic as he holds his arms aloft and opens himself up to his holy trial.
