Description:
Collection of songs with accompaniment for bass copied ca. 1660-1670, perhaps in Cheshire. Ten staves of five lines. Handwritten signature: 'Mr Hen: Purcell'. Bearing in mind the date of the MS, this may indicate the elder Henry Purcell (d. 1664) but although he was a musician, no other works are known to be by him. The ascription could therefore denote the younger Purcell (1659-95), who probably began composing at a young age. Pagination added by Robert Spencer in 1989.
