The CRE was set up by the Race Relations Act 1976 with the duties of working towards the elimination of discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity and good relations between different racial groups generally.
This Strategy Statement summarised the CRE's general approach to this task and spelt out some of the priorities in its initial work programme.
