Early sixteenth-century manuscript inscription in brown ink on leaf, recording the purchase of the book by Celso Maffei and its use by the Lateran canons of San Leonardo in Monte Donico in exchange for prayers for Maffei: "Liber canonico[rum] regulariu[m] co[n]gregationis lateranensis, comorantiu[m]. i[n]. monasterio. Sancti Leonardi. prope uero[n]a[m] qui i[n]p[rim]is Deputatus. usui. D. Celsi, de mapheis. uerone[n]sis. qui libru[m] ipsum emit. pro quo, lege[n]tes. ora[r]e uelint". Celso Maffei (ca. 1425-1508), of Verona, was a canon regular of the Lateran, scholar and bibliophile; his books partly passed to the Monastery of San Leonardo in Monte Donico in Verona.
