On leaf an illuminated armorial decoration of Bernhard von Rohr (1421-1487) Archbishop of Salzburg: a pastoral staff surmounted by a cross fleury, on which is a bishop's mitre in blue and gold, a ligatured motto 'IVVAVIA ROR' (probably for the old Roman name 'Iuvavum' for Salzburg) in gold on either side of mitre, descending from the mitre on both sides a purple ribbon on which are two large shields, the left-side shield with the arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg (party per pale or a leopard rampant sable and gules a fess argent), the right-side shield with the arms of Bernhard von Rohr (party per pale with two embattlements argent and gules), on the centre of the staff a crowned mitre in purple and gold, beneath that is the letter 'M' in gold, beneath that the motto of Bernhard von Rohr 'VNICA SPES MEA' in gold on a white scroll, beneath that the initials 'LK' in pink (presumably Leonhard Kurz) on either side of the staff, beneath that another coat of arms (of Kurz?, or on a bend gules three fleurons[?] argent), beneath that the date '1477' in gold, with two brown bears salient supporting the two large shields. Eighteenth-century[?] manuscript inscription of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter (Benediktinerabtei St. Peter) in Salzburg, Austria, on leaf [a2]r: "Conuentus S. Petri Salisburgi:". According to Thomas Frognall Dibdin, he acquired the book from the Abbey for George John Spencer, 2nd Earl Spencer (1758-1834).
