Decoration: Italian, fifteenth-century, illuminated 10-line initial 'I' is supplied in gold, incorporated into a three-sided white vine-stem border with blue, green, and maroon decoration, and outlined in blue, terminating in bunched finials, with black pen-work rays and gold dots; in the lower border a green wreath containing a (later?, slightly lopsided) coat of arms of an object (a chess-rook or a bell?) in gold on a red shield radiant on a blue ground (see note on the arms above); in the right-hand margin three birds (parakeets?) in green and maroon in different poses arranged vertically and standing on gold dots.
