Description:
Four line note written at head of page in a very neat early seventeenth-century hand, possibly by Laurence Langley: "Neq[ue] nat[a]e sunt hereses & qu[a]eda[m] dogmata peruersitatis illaqueantia ... 1609" [the end of the lines partially cropped by binder]. Large woodcut illustration in two compartments, representing St. Jerome in the desert and in his study; with four elegiac couplets below. Written at foot of woodcut illustration: "Laurentius Langley. 160[9]" [possibly Lawrence Langley (b. 1570), who matriculated at Brasenose, Oxford in 1588]. Written beneath wooduct: "James Hyet" [unidentified; Alumni Oxonienses lists two James Hyet's, one who matriculated in 1583/4, the other who matriculated at St. John's College in 1597/8; Alumni Cantabrigienses lists one James Hiet who matriculated at Peterhouse in 1607].
