Description:
Interior view of the staircase and hall at Capenhurst Hall, with the fireplace to the left. The half-landing staircase is lined with unidentified paintings and leads to a gallery corridor. The newel post at the base of the staircase has a decorative finial, a griffin sejant (seated) holding a shield and there is a four arm standing candelabra at the foot of the staircase. The fireplace in the hall has a carved mantel with two griffins sat either side of the mantelpiece. There is a large overmantel with a clock and two classical figures incorporated into the design. At the time of the photograph Capenhurst Hall was the seat of the Richardson Family of Cheshire. The church of Holy Trinity at Capenhurst was erected and endowed in 1859 by the late Rev. Richard Richardson M.A. of Capenhurst Hall. Capenhurst Hall is described as being a mansion of red brick close to the station and the church; unfortunately the Hall no longer exists and was demolished in the 1960’s.
