Description:
Interior view of the hall at Monkhams looking towards the organ that sits at the top of the imperial staircase. The staircase has an ornately carved balustrade with both strapwork and scrollwork, the flooring is parquet and there are fine examples of Victorian furniture visible, including an octagonal table with carved lions on the supporting legs. Monkhams is an area in the London Borough of Redbridge. Originally a country estate; in the late 19th century, the area contained a country house named Monkhams which was owned by West Ham founder Arnold Hills. The architect was G T Robinson and the interior designers George Trollope and Sons. In 1901, Hills sold the land to property developers. There are some small flaws in the print itself, likely sustained in the printing process rather than a flaw to the original plate or negative.
