Description:
Interior view of the morning room at Swan House, London, looking towards the fireplace. The room has busy floral patterned wallpaper and a large floral patterned rug covering most of the wooden floor. There are inbuilt cupboards and bookcases on either side of the fireplace, which has beautiful tiles on the surround and decorative medieval style images inlaid on the mantel. The over mantel and also the top of the bookcases has been used to display pottery. There is a large medieval inspired tapestry hanging on the wall. Against the wall is a wooden bench settee with an upholstered cushion and a fully upholstered chaise longue sits to the side of the fireplace. In the foreground of the image is a table designed by Philip Webb. Swan House was designed by the architect Richard Norman Shaw in 1876, and the owner Mr Wickham Flower hired the firm of designer William Morris to decorate the interior. It is still a private residence. There are some flaws in the print itself, likely sustained in the printing process rather than a flaw to the original plate or negative.
