Description:
|
Four women, dressed in smocks and hats, are leaning over a large felled tree. Two of the women are holding a tape measure along the tree trunk between them. The Women's Forestry Service was started by Miss Rosamund Crowdy as a section of the Land Army. It was set up under the Timber Supply Department, part of the Board of trade in 1917. Training camps for cutting and measuring the timber were held at several locations, including Wendover.
