Description:
|
The interior of the Dyeing Laboratory in the main UMIST building. Taken from the south eastern corner the shot is angled westward and shows three long work benches running east to west with square sections set into their surfaces at regular intervals. In each of these are six regular circular holes designed to fit the white beakers used in the laboratory a number of which are visible out on the tables. Located at either end of the benches are porcelain sinks with the attendant pipe work and plumbing. Around the southern and western walls cupboards and shelves have been placed on which are stored a variety of labelled glass bottles. Above these large windows have been recessed into the walls, those to the south looking out onto Granby Row and those in the western wall Sackville Street. These in turn rise towards a vaulted ceiling supported by three sections of beams that are angled so that they intersect roughly above the centre of the chamber. There is a glass fronted wooden cabinet standing against the northern wall with a square pipe running from the top of it east along the wall. The Dyeing Laboratory was located on the Fourth floor (floor F) of the building at the south western corner corner.
