Description:
Black and white photograph of the explosive operations site on Sackville St. Taken from a slightly elevated position on the eastern side of the street roughly where the Faraday building now stands. The shot is angled towards the west and shows a cleared yard between Sackville Street and the river Medlock in which there are two wooden frames, the more central of which is surrounded by banks of sandbags. There is also a tarpaulin-covered mound with the word danger written across it and a corrugated metal shed within the brick wall that surrounds the yard. On the wire mesh gates can be seen a sign which reads "Danger explosive operations in progress keep out". To the north of this, standing on the site now occupied by the Weston centre, is Leonard Fairclough Ltd and across the Medlock (which has since been culverted at this point and runs beneath the campus) are several large industrial mills and factories on the plot where the George Begg building now stands.
