Description:
|
Black and white photograph of the exterior of the old Student Union. Taken from ground level on the eastern side of Oxford Rd near to the junction with Brunswick St, the shot is angled across the thoroughfare SW towards the junction with Burlington St and shows the blackened north and west elevations of the building. Suspended above the streets surrounding the Union are electric cables that powered the trolley buses which ran in Manchester at this period, and in the foreground of the picture a Morris minor displaying L plates can be seen just turning the corner onto Oxford Rd. To the south of the structure and across Lime Grove, partially obscured by a tree, the new Union building is just visible. The University Refectory and Moberly Tower now stand on the site of the old Union building.
