Letter from Deirdre Gooder (H. D. Davies's daughter) to Mr. Hetherington of the Manchester Guardian. Gooder begins, 'I should like you to know how much your generous tributes to my father have helped my mother and myself in our own great sorrow, and goes on to say she will never forget the Hetherington's 'beautiful reading of the lesson at St. Ann's and the sight of the entire staff standing outside the Guardian office as we passed'. Gooder also offers thanks for the financial help provided by the Guardian to her mother (although her mother initially refused assistance) and remarks 'The magnanimity of your conduct would have delighted my father, I know.'
