Description:
|
The letter is to Mary Hamilton's mother and relates to Hope's intentions towards Hamilton. He notes his affection for Hamilton and that he believed Mrs Hamilton could have no objection other than his lack of fortune. He notes that both Hamilton and her mother's behaviour has changed towards him and he wonders why. He believes that Mrs [name censored] had told Mrs Hamilton that she had acted wrong in trusting Hamilton in his company. The letter continues on Hope's intentions towards Hamilton and he notes that if Mrs Hamilton has any concerns then he will understand if he received no further invitations to her home. The letter is torn and part of it has been damaged by fire. Some of the text is missing.
