Description:
|
Siege of Troy. Book three: Hector kills a Greek king just to strip him of his wonderful armour and as Hector pauses to strip the body he lays down his shield. At that moment Achilles sees Hector unarmed and thrusts a spear into him, killing him. Odemon hits Achilles so hard it is thought he is dead and he is carried off the battlefield. Hector's body is taken back to the temple in Troy. Illustrated bas-de-page detail: Hector's funeral procession. There is a floriated, illuminated full border and an illuminated initial 'B'. The illustration has been identified as being painted by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth English illuminator. The written space is 305 x 200 mm, 2 columns and 44 lines and the script is anglicana formata by two hands.
