Siege of Troy. Illustrated detail: Lydgate presenting his work to Henry V. There is a floriated, illuminated full border and initial 'O'. The illustration has been identified as being painted by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth English illuminator. The text begins 'Here begynneth the boke of the sege of Troye compiled by Daun John Lydgate, monke of Bery, atte excitacioun and steryng of the most noble, worthi and myghty Prynce Kyng Henry the fyfthe, ffirst rehersyng the conquest of the golden flees acheved by the manly prowesse of Jason. Under the correcioun of every prudent reader.' The written space is 305 x 200 mm, 2 columns and 44 lines and the script is anglicana formata by two hands.
