þo lyuede & to him he þouȝte hire shendfullyche haue mariede for to haue had hire lande aftirwarde but he w(a)s clene disceyued // ffor þis Curan þ(t) w(a)s Hauelockes sone þ(t) w(a)s king of Kirkelane in Denmark & þi(s) Curan co(~)quereden his wifes lande(s) & slough king Edlef þ(t) w(a)s his wifes vncle and had al hir lande as in anoþ(er) stede it telleþ more ope(~)ly. & he ne regned but .iij. ȝer. for Saxone(s) & danoys hi(~) q(e)lde & þ(t) was grete harme to al Britaigne. & britou(~)s ber hi(~) to Stonheng(e). & þ(er)e hi(~) entered w(t) muche hono(ur) & sole(~)pnite/ // [Of king Conan. cao. xxiiij .xiijo.] After þis. Curan regnede Conan. þat was his cosyn þat was a wonder prout knyght. and regnede and he couþ(e) nought haue no manere loue. but eu(er)e he was medeling wiþ his owene peple and toke his vncle wiþ werre and welde his .ij. children // þe Saxones werreden aȝens him often times but he ham ou(er)come at þe laste and so he was in pees al his lifes time. and he regnede .xiiij ȝere. and aft(er) he deide and lith at London Of king Cortif and of Gurmonde þat comen þorugh paynymes in to Britaigne Co. xxiiij. xiiijo. After þis. Conan. regned his cosyn Cortif þat was bihated of al his peple and noþing biloued and þis Cortif lost al Britaigne þoȝgh werre and in his tyme fel a gret meschief in Britaigne þat c(ri)stendom was destroied and alle þe Britouns were dryuen out and þe land y lost/ withouten ony recou(er)e but afterwarde lefte þe lande to Saxones as ȝe shulle afterward hure // ffor in þat tyme þere was a paynyme þat me callede. Gurmonde þ(t) was þe kinges sone. Daufrik(es) of þe paynymes folc þat had þe reaume aft(er) his fad(er) and was king sauf he biquaþ and ȝaf it to his broþ(er) and saide þat he nolde neu(er)e be king ȝif he mighte conquere and gete a reaume in a st(ra)un ge cuntree. for he was bolde and eke strong of body and of him p(ro)pheciede M(er)lyn and saide þat he shulde ben a wolf of þe see. and he lete assemble paynymes wiþ outen nombre and lete app(er)aille shippes and wente by
