and feauteȝ of alle ham þat were in his lande and wolde haue had þe lande to his owene vse. and nome castell abou- te and lete ham arraye and aft(er) þis falsnesse he dede anoþ(er) gret wrong for aȝeins þe lawe of c(ri)stiante he nome his owen emes wyf as a traitour shulde and ordeignede him a gret host aȝens Arthurs comynge to halde þe land aȝens him w(t) strengþe for eu(er)more. and to sle king Arthur ȝif þat he might and lete sende by þe see and lande and lete assemble pay- nymes and c(ri)stene peple. and he sente to Saxones and to Danoys for to helpe him. and also Mordred sente to Cheldrik to don men come to him out of Saxoyne þat was a worþy duke and bihete him yf þat he broughte wiþ him moche peple: he wolde g(ra)unte him in heritage for eu(er)emore: al þe land fram by ȝonde Humber vnto Scotlande. and al þe lande þat Engist hadde of Vortig(er)s ȝifte Whanne þat he had spoused his douȝter: and Cheldrik come wiþ gret streng- the and poer of peple. and Mordred had assembled also in his half: þat þey hadde. xl.ml. of stronge knyghtes whan þat þey hadde nede.
