The tale of how Uter (Uther) holds a feast and falls in love with Igerne (Ygraine), the wife of the Earl of Cornewaile (Cornwall). How Uter beseiged Tyntagell, and sought Merlyn's help to win Igerne. Red rubrication introduces the story of Uter and Igerne. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

barouns þat þey shulden come to þat feste and alle þo þat had wifes shulde bringe ham also to þat feste : and alle comen at þe kinge comaundeme(~)t as þei were comaunded // The feste was richely holden and alle worþily sette to þe mete after þat þey weren of astate. So þat Gorlois of Cornewaile and Igerne his wif seten alther next þe king and þe king saugh þe fairnesse of þat lady þat she hadde and was rauysshed for hire beaute and ofte he made towarde hire nyce semblaunt in lokinge & laughynge so at þe laste þe Erl p(er)ceyuede þe p(ri)ue lokynge & laughinge and þe loue bituene ham : and aros vp fram þe table al in wraþþ(e) and toke his wif and callede to him his knyghtes and wente þennes al in wraþþ(e) wiþoute taking leue of þe king . þe king anon sent after him þat he shulde come a- ȝeyn and go nought þennes in despite of him // And þ(e) Erl wolde nouȝt come aȝeyn in no maner wise wherfore þe king was ful wroþ and in wraþ him diffiede as his dedly ene- my . And þe Erl wente þennes in to Cornewaile wiþ his wif in to þe castel of Tyntagell and þe king lete ordeigne a g(re)t(e) host and come in to Cornewaile for to destroye þe Erl ȝif he mighte but he had pult him in such a castell þat was st(ro)ng and wel arraied of Tyntagell and wolde nouȝt ȝelde him to þe king . þe king anon bisegede þe castel and þere duelde xv dayes þat neu(er) he mighte spede and eu(er)e þoughte so muche vppon Igerne and vppon hire laide so muche loue þat he nyste what to done // So at þe laste he called to him a knyȝt þat me callede Vlfyn þat was þ(ri)ue w(t) him and tolde him al his counseil and axede of him what was best for to done // Sire quod he doþ sende after M(er)lyn . for he can telle ȝow þe beste counceil of ony man lyuynge . Merlyn anon was sent aft(er) and come to þe king and þe king tolde him al his wille // Sire quod M(er)lyn .
