Description: 
The tale of the star which appeared at the death of King Aurilambros. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial 'M' introduce Merlyn's prophecy to Uter (Uther). The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata. Line 3 - a later hand has added to the word , and written in the left margin.

was brighter þan þe sonne and at þe bouȝte of þe beem apperede a dragouns heed and out of his mouth comen .ij. huge lightes þat were a[*] brighte as ony fire brennyng // And þat o beem tilde towarde ff(ra)unce and straughte ouer þe see þiderwarde And out of þat beem comen .vij. beemes ful clere and longe as it were þe light of fire // þis sterre was seyn of many a man : but non of ham wiste what it bitokenede // Vter þat was þe kinges broþ(er) þat was in Walis with his host o Britouns saugh þat sterr(e) and þe grete light þat he ȝaf : he wondrede þ(er)of gretly what it mighte bitokene and lete calle M(er)lyn and p(ra)yde him for to telle what it mighte bitokene . Of þe bitokenynge of þat [...] sterre Cap(o). lxix(o) Merlyn say þat sterre and biheld hy(~) [...] longe tyme and sithenes he quoke and wepte tendirly and sayde allas þat so noble king and worþy is dede and J do ȝow to vnderstonde þat Aurilambros ȝoure broþ(er) is en poisoned and þat J se wel in þis sterre and ȝoure self bitoken(t) by þe hede of þe dragou(~)þat is seyn at þe bouȝte of þe beem þat is ȝoure self þat shal be king and regne and by þe beem þat stood towardes þe est . is vndirstonde þat ȝe shal geten a sone þat shal conquere al ff(ra)unce and alle þ(e) landes þat beþ longinge to þe croune of ff(ra)unce þat shulde ben a worthiere king and of more hono(ur) þan eu(er)e was eny of his auncestres // And by þe beem þat streccheth toward Irlonde is bitokened þat ȝe shulle bigeten a doughter þat shal be quene of Irlond. And þe .vij. beemes bitokeneþ þat she shal haue .vij. sones and eu(er)ich of ham shal be king and shullen regne wiþ muchel hono(ur). and abide ȝe no leng(er) here . but goþ and ȝeueþ bataile to ȝoure enemys and fighteþ wiþ ham boldely for ȝe shulle ou(er) come ham and haue þe victorie // Vter þankede hertily M(er)lyn and nome his me(~) and wente towarde his enemys and þey foughten togidere mortaly . and so he descomfitede his ene- mys alle and destroied and him self quelde .
