his doughter to Brenne and al þe peple þat he had ordeyned And þis damisel Samye had long tyme loued a king þat me callede Gutlaghe and to him she tolde al hire councel how þt Brenne shulde hire haue and hire lede with him for eu(er)more and so he shulde hire lese but ȝif þat she mighte forsaken Brenne // And whanne Gutlaugh herde þis tidynge : he lay for to aspie Brenne with as many shippes as he mighte ha- ue so þat þo .ij. fletes metten togedere and long tyme fough ten . so þat Brenne and his shippes turnede aȝen and were descomfitede and king Gutlagh . toke Samye and pulte hire in to shipp and Brenne shamfully fley þennes as a man discomfited And Gutlagh wolde haue went in to his owen countr(e) : but þere come vppon him a st(ro)ng tempest þat .v. dayes laste so þat þorugh þat tempest he was in to Britaigne wiþ .iij. shippes and with nomo . And þo þat kepten þe costes of þe see : token Gutlagh and Samye and al his folc / and ham presentede to Belyn . pulte ham in to p(ri)soun . How Belyn drof out of þis lande king Gutlagh of Denmarc & Samye . Coxxijo. Hit was nought longe after þat Brenne ne com aȝen wiþ a gret nauye and sente to his broþ(er) Belyn þat he shulde ȝelde aȝen his lande to his wife and to his folc and his castell also or elles he wolde destroye his lande : Belyn dredde noþing his manace and wolde noþing done after þt he seide wherfore Brenne come with his folc / and faught with him Belyn . and Brenne was descomfited and his folc slayn and him self fled with .xij. men in to ff(ra)unce . And þis Belyn þat was Brennes broþ(er) wente þo to ȝork and nome counceil what he mighte don with king Gutlagh for king Gutlagh p(re)ferede to bicome his man and to halde his lande of him : ȝeldinge be ȝere a þousand pound of siluer for eu(er) more and for sikernesse of þis couenaunt to ben holde Gut lagh shulde bringe him good hostages and to him shulde don homage and al his folc and ȝet shulde swere vppon þe book þat þese couenantȝ sholde neuere be broke ne falsede .
