Description:
|
Gospel of John: chapters eighteen and nineteen. A pen-flourished initial 'T' in blue and red ink introduces the next chapter. Jesus is taken from the house of Annas to the house of Caiaphas and then before Pilate. Peter denies being his follower twice more and the cock crows for morning. Pilate asks Jesus if he is King of the Jews and Jesus replies that his kingdom is not of this world, but that he came to this world to bear witness to truth. Pilate asks Jesus 'What is truth?'. Pilate can find no cause to put Jesus to death and offers to release him but the Jewish people ask for another prisoner Barabbas to be released instead. Jesus is scourged, given a crown of thorns and a purple robe to wear. The Jewish people cry out for the crucifixion of Jesus. The written space is c. 207 x 133 mm in two columns.
