Description:
|
Gospel of Matthew: chapter twenty-seven. Jesus is taken before Pilate who can find no reason to condemn him to death. Pilate washes his hands as a sign that he is guiltless in the death of Jesus and hands him over to the Jewish people. Jesus is given a robe and a crown of thorns to wear and mocked as King of the Jews. Jesus is helped by Simon of Cyrene to carry his cross to Golgotha at Calvary. Finally, Jesus is crucified with a sign above his head proclaiming him Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The written space is c. 207 x 133 mm in two columns.
